Gazprom Skyscraper Turns Green

Russia’s state-controlled energy Company Gazprom has unveiled a fabulous design for their new office building planned in St. Petersburg.
The new design by architectural firm RMJM proposes to use plants to control the building’s temperature

The glass tower with double walls will sandwich hundreds of trees and plants to provide heat in the winter and cooler temperatures in the summer.
The exterior will be clad in temperature-color changing glass panels.

The ecologically aware energy company will be located between the Okhta tributary and the River Neva, some 5 kilometers from St. Petersburg’s city center

Despite the resistance of the public opinion, could this new tower become St Petersburg's new landmark?
Construction is planned to start later this year with completion scheduled for 2012.
